ObjectivesThe Objectives: You donate your surplus clothing and shoes
We collect clothes in Clothing Banks, pack and sell the clothes in order to raise funds for environmental sustainable projects in the developing world.
Together, we are doing our bit for a better common future.
Our Operation
Greenworld Recycling collects used clothes and shoes from some 600 clothing banks hosted by supermarkets, post offices, news agents, pubs and schools and other recycle minded individuals or organisations.
You can find our Clothing Banks in and around West Midlands, from Crewe to Leamington, as well as in the Bristol area, South Wales and East London, Kent and East Sussex.
All clothing banks are emptied by our own team of drivers. Some of the very busy containers are emptied twice per week. Some of the smaller sites at least every other week.
Our workshop carefully handles regular refurbishment and maintenance of banks. On each bank there are stickers with hotline telephone numbers and information about the operation and how the proceeds are being used.
Green World Recycling Ltd. is a non profit Ltd. company with no shareholders. All proceeds are donated to The GAIA Movement Living Earth Green World Action and are being used for sustainable, environmental projects in South America, Southern Africa and India.
The Clothing Banks
We have various sizes and brands of clothing banks. The large JOBA container, is theft secure and entering secure, for super market sites. The smallest is our community clothing bank especially designed for local recycling points, local post offices, pubs and local shops.
The Community Clothing Bank makes recycling easy and accessible for the public in their own local community. We are determined to make it possible to walk to your recycling ponts.
We encourage the public to put their clothes and shoes into sealed bags. If there is loose clothing in the bank, the driver makes sure that all collected items are bagged. All donations are important to us. The wet and cold seasons demands special care. Wet clothes is waste, sadly.
A. Recycling Clothes This is environmentally important in order to:
- Reduce waste amounts and therefore reduce landfill space
- reduce emissions of greenhouse gasses - fomred when the clothes are burned or decompose
- reduce the energy used for getting rid of the waste
- reduce air pollution since burning clothes emits air pollutants
- reduce use of pesticides in agricultural production
B. Support Development in deprived countries
90 % of the collected clothes are sold and reused as clothing. The surplus of this sale is used for enivronmental projects in Africa, South America and India. The projects aim at improving livelihood in the communities while also improving the environment.
Land degradation and deforestation are reduced and water balances are improved by demonstrating alternatives, so that people do not have to cut down so many trees and can reduce the loss of valuable topsoil from their fields.
